I have no credit history and I can’t seem to get a unsecured credit card. Will applying for a secured one look bad on my credit report?

I’m afraid lenders will see it and think I was in some kind of financial trouble and all I can get now is a unsecured card.
all I can get is secured credit card* sorry typo

Not at all. Many people start a credit history that way. It will look like a regular credit card on your credit report As another siad all they will see is that you make your payments on time or don’t slow pay (pay it late).

As long as you pay on time you will usually be able to get it converted to a regular card. Or After time you will have enough of a record to apply for a regular one with another company.

On the secured card the interest will be very high so only spend what you can afford to pay right away.

If I go to a retail store and apply for a credit card, for instant approval they usually need another one of your credit cards to check it. Can you use a debit card for this purpose if it has a visa logo on it?
Also, if you can use debit cards, will this improve your chance of getting their credit card?

Don’t know much about the instant approval process, but I do know that you should avoid getting a lot of retail store credit cards. The more open accounts you have (over maybe 1-3), the more of a credit risk you will look like and the worse your credit score will be. Best to stick with a couple of credit cards that have general rewards (points, flyer miles, etc.) rather than get a ton of retail credit cards that could wind up pushing your interest rates up.

If you are serious about managing your money then secured cards are 100% approval.

i have very poor credit :( but i really do need a unsecured credit card with a minimum of 500 dollars on it in case of an emergency like my car needs to be fixed etc. im a single mother and i dont recieve any child support and i make very little money and have no one to help me in an emergency im on my own ! so please let me know if you know where i can get a card thanks alot :)

It’s very unlikely you will get an unsecured card if your credit is indeed very poor. The most likely scenario would be that you accept a secured card from a lender and responsibly handle it over at least six months and probably a year or more. If you handle the card well they may eventually release the deposit back to you. Other than that you could rebuild your credit by getting a card at a store (Kohl’s, gas station, etc.). Again using that card well will improve your rating and allow you at a future point to have access to an unsecured card.

I assume your credit is poor because you haven’t handled unsecured cards or other loans well in the past. If that’s the case then it’s hard to expect a lender to give you money again when that hasn’t gone well for other lenders in the past until you can show them that some lenders have had a positive experience with you. That’s where either the secured, or store card come in.

Does anyone know of an unsecured credit card for people with bad credit? I am looking for one with a $500 credit limit. High APR is not an issue as I am not wanting to use the card, I basically need it t make it easier in car rentals and in helping me re-build my credit.

Get a credit card from local bank and pay it in time. You also can use this service to avoid common mistakes while buiding credit and pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of payments – credit-report-free.totalh.com

I just turned 18 in October and I need helppp!
I can’t get approved for credit cards, even the ones that say no credit history credit cards, or instant approval. I’ve applied for a small loan. I’ve applied for a Walmart credit card, a Sears credit card, and I’ve gotten denied on all of these options.
How exactly am I suppose to build credit!?!?!?

And I don’t have a father and my mom is ina lot of debt, nobody can co-sign for me.
:[

I KNOW IT’S LONG, BUT HOPEFULLY YOU READ IT!

First of all, Congrats on turning 18! You have officially been introduced to adulthood…. which includes the wonderful world of credit! (haha sarcasm!)

Credit is very complicated, especially with the way that the economy is (unfortunately banks are so weary to hand out loans that even people with great credit are having a hard time getting approved). The best way to build credit is to start small and to manage it well, before aiming high at big loans and high credit card limits.

First, it’s best to start off applying for a credit card if you don’t have anyone to help you get a loan. Loans are the best way to build credit, but it’s unlikely they will give you one without the help of someone who has credit. BEWARE OF PLACES THAT TELL YOU OTHERWISE BECAUSE THEY LIKELY HAVE A CATCH, LIKE A VERY HIGH INTEREST RATE. I would recommend doing a little comparison shopping to find the best card for you, although most of the time the best place to apply for cards and loans is your bank. You have to be VERY careful of interest rates, because that is where most people get in extremely deep. You should only charge what you can afford to pay off in a few paychecks. If you are looking at a loan for school, check out some of the loans that they offer with the school since you’ll have a better chance of getting approved there.

HERE IS SOME INFORMATION THAT MY BANK GAVE ME:

**WHAT MAKES UP THE SCORE?
35% = based on payment history (paying on time or
delinquencies) with more weight on current payment
history.
30% = capacity on revolving debt
15% = length of credit
10% = accumulation of debt in last 12-18 months. Number of
inquiries and opening dates impact this.
10% = mix of credit
Installment debt raises vs. revolving debt lowers
# of finance companies loans – the more the lower the
score

**WHAT HURTS THE SCORE?
-Missing payments (it can take 24-months to restore credit
with one late pay)
-Credit cards at capacity (maxed out)
-Closing credit cards out (lowers available capacity)
-Shopping for credit excessively
-Opening up numerous trades in a short period of time
-More revolving loans in relation to installment loans
-Borrowing from finance companies

**WHAT DOESN’T AFFECT YOUR SCORE?
-Debt ratio
-Income
-Length of residence
-Length of employment

**HOW TO IMPROVE THE SCORE?
-Pay down on credit cards
-Do not close credit cards because capacity will decrease
(but do not use them)
-Make payments on time (older late pays will become less
significant with time)
-Slow down on opening accounts
-Acquire a solid credit history with years of experience
-Move revolving debt to installment debt
-Move finance company loans to your credit union

SORRY THIS WAS SO LONG, CREDIT IS COMPLICATED! I sincerely hope this helped because I was in your shoes a while back. If you have more questions, try talking to a loan officer at your bank. Even if they can’t approve you for a loan, they can give you advise.

Good luck,
Tiana

WESTGATE RESORT called me continuously for the last few months to book a vacation package with them with a timeshare tour. I have stayed there before and toured at the resort. Last week I decided to go head with the vacation plan since the representative i spoke to guaranteed i would def. have a place to stay at Westgate. The representative was not sure about the room he can get me and needed special approval from a manager and took my credit card number and i ask him to call me before he charges my card because i will like to know which room i am getting. He informed me that he will definitely call me before it was charged.
A few days later go by he does not call and my card has been charged, and i have no idea for what package. I call the 1800 number to inquire and they look up my account and tell me that i don’t qualify for this package because i have been there before. I spoke to every department head since than and they can’t do anything for me at Westgate. It will be 4 of July week and i don’t have a reservation anywhere and the money is still not back on my card. I want to know how can I take action against this company. I know i can not do anything about the fact that their representative at trained poorly and make mistakes constantly while book customers vacation packages. But i want to file something against them for charging my card without my permission and charging me when they knew i was not qualified for their package. For all the times you have been treated badly by timeshare resorts or sales agencies HELP ME!

In order to dispute the charge, you’ll have to call your credit card company. Usually, credit card companies will want a written statement from you stating the dispute in order to issue a chargeback. Some will do it over the phone but only a few.

As far as reporting a company who’s done you wrong, you should contact the attorney general of the state in which the company is registered and file a formal complaint. You can also contact the local Better Business Bureau, but this will not start any legal action, just a public complaint about the company.

I have excellent credit and need a new credit card shipped fast . Is there any website that can expedite this process I know I can instantly get approved for any card out there. I need to take care of some personel financial obligations fast. Any suggestions? I can find sites that promise fast delivery of credit cards for those with credit in need of repair , and there are many ways to get instant approval, but I need imediate shipping upon approval, and my credit is good

I got my capital one credit card 2 years ago…and once i got their fast-approval online they sent it to me right away. Their interest rates are not that great….but i got an option to get it in 2-3 days from that day.

I really would wait the extra couple days for a 0% interest rate card if you got good credit.

BUT CAPITAL ONE IS ONE ANSWER. WHATEVER YOU DO…don’t go with Bank of AMerica they won’t give you an approval until 30 days and even then you still have to wait for your card. Personal experience. hahahah
